PRAY FOR THE NATION

Indonesia:

Apa mau dibilang, kenyataan berbicara beda dilapangan.

Pembangunan hunian itu belum dikerjakan hingga Minggu (5/12). Penyebabnya apalagi kalu bukan terbentur birokrasi pemerintahan.

OVER 1700 CHURCHES DESTROYED AND BURNED IN INDONESIA THE LAST 15 YEARS.

Faisal Abdul Rauf, the Imam of the Proposed Islamic Center and Mosque near
Ground Zero in Manhattan New York is talking about a "Faith Partnership".
The Muslims only use this kind of vocabulary when they are in a minority. I
have served in Indonesia for 50 years and never have I heard any Muslim Imam
talk about a "Faith Partnership" with other religions. Once Muslims become a
majority the persecution and discrimination toward non-Muslims is everywhere
and at every level in society.

It is hypocritical that the Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono
appealed to President Obama to try to stop the Quran burning in the
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States> United States. In Yudhoyono's
Indonesia  there is a great persecution for Christians and over 1700
churches have been destroyed and burned during the last 15 years including
Bibles, hymnbooks and church furniture. Pastors with their families have
been killed.

According to Compass Direct News under the administration of President
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who took power in October 2004, there has been 110
cases of closed or destroyed churches. This compares with 92 such cases
during the rule of his predecessor Megawati Sukarnoputri (2001-2004), 232
cases under Abdurrahman Wahid (1999-2001, 156 cases under Bachruddin Jusuf
Habibie (1998-1999) and 456 under Suharto (1967-1998). In the era of
Indonesia's first President Sukarno (1945-1967), only 2 cases of church
destruction are recorded..

Radical Muslim groups attacking churches included the Front for the Defense
of Islam (FPI) the Indonesian Mujahidin, Hizbullah Front, Muslim Clergy
Members Forum (Front Ulama Umat Islam) and the Muslim Safety Forum (Dewan
Keamanan Masjid)

1.   Officially, the total number of churches closed or destroyed by Muslims
in Indonesia is at least 1700. I have translated the following list of
destroyed churches from a Center of Data and Analysis TEMPO entitled...

Extreme violence and persecution against Christians in Indonesia has taken a
new dramatic turn at the weekend as three Christian school girls were
barbarically beheaded by masked attackers. The three girls were attending a
private Christian school in the highly tense province of Central Sulawesi.
The three were attacked by unidentified assailants, and a fourth girl was
left seriously wounded. Police in the region commented that sickeningly one
of the girl's heads was taken and placed by the attackers in front of a new
Christian church, and the other two taken and placed outside the police
station. The girls were killed with machetes as they walked to school near
Poso. Religious clashes between Christians and Muslims in Poso have killed
more than 2,000 people since 1998, according to ABC News. The region is well
known for its violence between the two communities, and a sectarian war in
2001 and 2002 killed more than 1,000 people, with beheadings, burnings among
the horror witnessed. The government has attempted a number of times to
mediate a ceasefire and a truce between the two sides, but the persecution

The SETIA Bible College in Jakarta,  Indonesia had to be evacuated of its

hundreds of armed Muslim protestors. At least 17 people were hurt. Two
students, Junius Kily and Jony Gontho, were returning to their dormitory on
the Friday evening when they saw a large rat in the street. Junius threw his
sandal at it, and the sandal landed on a neighbour's property. When Junius
went to retrieve it, the owner of the house cried out that he was a thief.
The local mosque began urging the residents to attack the school, and by
midnight mobs were attacking the dormitories, shouting Allahu Akhbar ("God
is great"). Stones were thrown at the main campus building, and the
protestors tried unsuccessfully to burn down one of the dormitories. They
were armed with knives and sharpened bamboo. The female students were
evacuated, but the next night a crowd besieged a women's dormitory, where
some of the male students had been transferred. The violence continued
through the night, and the police began evacuating the remaining students.
As they left, some of them were slashed with swords, and acid was thrown

Prayer Requests

*        Pray that peace will continue in the areas where violence once
reigned.

*        Pray that Christians in Indonesia will have the freedom to share
their faith without fear and win Indonesia for Christ.

*        Pray that those pushing for a stricter Islamic state will fail and
that Indonesia will truly be free for believers of all religions.
